Want to learn the editing techniques I use on my fine art images, then book a tutorial with me and I’ll explain how it works.

Black and white fine art photography tutorials are available, these cover the full process of creating my fine art images, so you have the skills to create images of your own.

The course assumes a level of photoshop knowledge, topics covered will all be of an advanced photoshop level and therefore to take the most out of our time, photoshop basics should be learnt in advance. I have a set of tutorials I can share to get you up to speed with photoshop.

In the session we will cover these main subjects

Planning and executing the shot
Preparing the image for editing
Advanced selections including luminosity masks
Creating depth
Advanced editing techniques

?125 for a 4 hour online tutorial, DISCOUNTS available for group sessions!!

This takes place over two sessions

Session 1 (~2.5 hours) ? Delivery of the tutorial
Interval ? You choose how long you?d like between sessions
Session 2 (~1.5 hours) ? Free format depending on your needs, we can recap any of the tutorial, review one of my images or review an image you?ve attempting using the technique

Our club recently had a talk by David Garthwaite on his Fine Art Workflow. The talk went into the details of how he uses Photoshop to create a Black and White version of his initial image and bring out the detail in a subtle and imaginative way. Our members really enjoyed the talk and felt inspired to try out the techniques that had been demonstrated - the post-talk resources were also much appreciated. This is a great talk for anyone interested in Photoshop techniques that can transform an everyday image into a fine art masterpiece. Highly recommended.

Dunfermline Photographic Association enjoyed David's Fine Art presentation on 1/3/22. It was outstanding; Informative and stimulating . A "must-see " Recording is allowed so members can work through the techniques at their own pace. Complex at times but with a stunning end product. Incredible value for money.

David Gave a talk via Zoom last night to the members of Pinner Camera Club. All of us found his talk both fascinating and educational. This was apparent not only by the comments made at the end of his presentation but also by those left in the "chat" box on Zoom. He left us with a great deal to think about as to how we can improve our own images and I expect to see the results of this in our competitions over the coming months. It can’t be easy to present and make adjustments in photoshop at the same time, but he carried it off fluently, and made a complex subject both understandable and enjoyable. A bravura performance ! His session took us through his workflow on what was an exceptional architecture shot. David has only had a DSLR for 4 years but is producing amazing image. His skills with Photoshop are brilliant. Dave gave a terrific tutorial to Maidenhead Camera Club on 18 January. He took us through the stages of how he plans, executes and then edits his stunning architectural images, transforming the ordinary into something spectacular in a stepwise process using Photoshop. I highly recommend Dave’s talk, even if you have no interest in applying the techniques he used; it’s worth it just to see what can be achieved with expertise and patience.

Kingsbridge and District Camera Club last night had a presentation from Leeds-based photographer David Garthwaite that was both inspirational and informative -- "Fine Art: A Workflow". The talk was very well-structured: a short video of beautiful and dramatic key B&W images (to whet the audience’s interest) was followed by a a detailed step-by-step tutorial leading us from the original RAW image (or two, in last night’s case) to the finished image, and then the talk was rounded off with some helpful things to consider if we wish to create such an arresting visual style for ourselves. As with all clubs, I’m sure, we have members with a wide range of skills, equipment and software (both photographic and post-processing) and it’s hard to keep them all interested and learning — but I think David did! One member even posted an image she'd re-edited using some of David's techniques less than two hours after the talk...
